For twenty-five years the town of Almada, opposite Lisbon, has hosted the biggest international theatre festival in Portugal, under the management of Joaquim Benite.
After shining the spotlight on the French directors Bernard Sobel and Gilles Dao in 2007, this year the Almada invites Alain Ollivier and Robert Cantarella. Alain Ollivier, who is putting on "Le Marin" by Fernando Pessoa at the Almada theatre (until 18th May), will present to the Portuguese public his version of Corneille’s El Cid at the Dona Maria II national theatre on 16th and 17th July. Robert Cantarella will direct Garnier’s Hippolyte for two performances, on 10th and 11th July, at the Almada theatre.
