Contemporary Music

CULTURESFRANCE’s department of Contemporary Music promotes and distributes the diversity of the French performance by implementing thematic programs.

Simultaneously, the department of Contemporary Music continues to support the international development of the industrial network in Common market countries thanks to reaffirmed support at the French Music Export Offices worldwide.

CULTURESFRANCE also continues its efforts to support the distribution of French artists through its partnership with French cultural services abroad.

The “Génération Musiques” program

Implemented by CULTURESFRANCE in collaboration with French cultural services abroad, “Génération Musiques” gives priority to exchange, dialogue between cultures, encounters between artists and new publics for all kinds of music: pop, rock, French variety, jazz, world music, reggae, hip hop, electro…

Génération Musiques / North Africa and Middle East

For three years, this program has brought French musical performances to countries in the Maghreb and the Middle East, and allows artists and publics to enjoy unique experiences, unique artistic encounters.

“Génération Musiques” is a celebration of all music: music of the world, pop, rock, French variety, jazz, reggae, hip hop, electro. More than 300 artists, from both sides of the Mediterranean, have already participated in “Génération Musiques”.

Génération Musiques / Latin America

“Génération Musiques” also takes place in Latin America. On this continent, music is omnipresent, inside, outside, in gardens, in clubs, in the city, in the islands. In search of new artistic encounters, Latin America wanted to explore the “Génération Musiques” adventure, promising profitable collaborations with countries where music is truly a popular art form.

Encounters between French musicians and local artists produce original and outstanding concerts. More than thirty French artists have already participated in “Génération musiques” / Latin America, opening a new adventure that will continue with many others until 2007.

Distribution

CULTURESFRANCE encourages French attendance at major musical events and supports artists’ tours around the world. Thus, each year, regional tours are organized in Asia for "Printemps français", as well as in Africa and in Eastern Europe.

It provides support to French Music Offices abroad that have been opened through a partnership with French Music Export Offices (Germany, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil and Mexico) to durably develop the French presence in these areas.

It invites foreign organizers to France during festivals: Printemps de Bourges, Transmusicales de Rennes, Francofolies de la Rochelle...

A technical commission made up of professionals is held once a year to evaluate contemporary French performance.

Jazz

Priority for Europe, North America and Japan
Over time, France, jazz’s second homeland, has distinguished itself from America: "America gave jazz to the world, but it survived thanks to France". This aphorism, heard in New York, leaves us honor bound! Alongside the American masters of swing or free, French jazz, known for its originality, is present on foreign stages particularly thanks to 25 years of CULTURESFRANCE’s willful efforts. "Being where it matters" signifies being present in Europe, North America and Japan. This is why in 2006 CULTURESFRANCE is implementing a specific support program centering on three powerful themes: support Franco-American orchestras on both sides of the Atlantic (FAJE program), support French music groups invited to festivals (Festijazz program), and finally support young talents (Jazz Primeur program).
